The title is a reference to the 1985 movie, Better Off Dead.
This is the second episode to have 'sled' in its title after "Gayle Makin' Bob Sled."
According to the cover of a recording draft script, Tyree Dillihay was originally the director of this episode before being replaced with the credited Ian Hamilton.[1]
Olsen Benner references the Billy Idol song "White Wedding" while reporting saying "It's a nice day for a white sledding."
Gene refers to Mandy as Brienne of Tarth, a character from the Game of Thrones franchise.
The Christmas tree the Belchers have in their living room is identical to the one they had in "The Bleakening" except for the color of some ornaments. The ornaments Tina and Louise made also appear on the tree near the top as they did after Linda relocated them from further down the tree but Gene's is missing.
When Linda asks the kids to go to bed the audio coming from the television is from the cacti documentary Gene watches with Alex and his parents in "Cheer Up, Sleepy Gene."
When the family is opening presents on Christmas Day, among the presents already opened include a toy resembling Dodomeki (presumably for Louise) and a horse doll (presumably for Tina).

After the Belcher children and friends escape the snowball attack from Logan's group, Gene references the opening scene from Saving Private Ryan.

When Teddy and Linda are fighting over the Linda's knitting bag, he asks Bob to decide who should be the one to have it, but Teddy also adds, "and don't say 'split it in half!'" This is a reference to 1 Kings 3:16-18 in the Bible, when two women were arguing and claiming that they were the mother of a baby, and Solomon says to cut the baby in half.

While the family watches Teddy on the news, Louise isn't wearing a mitten on her right hand unlike in all the other shots in the opening scene.
In the aforementioned shot Gene's cocoa mug is also missing.
When Mandy first appears her gloves are skin-colored making her hands appear bare but with stitching. They are also missing in the overhead shot when she and the sports teams surround Logan.
When Louise wakes up in her room the pupil on Dodomeki's top eye is missing.
In the final restaurant scene the dents on the ice cream machine are missing.
When Logan is chased away by the sports teams in the final shot at the sledding hill, a completely different set of team members appear compared to previous scenes with Mandy being the only character present who was also in the earlier shots.
