  • This episode was originally scheduled to air on November 8, 2020, but was delayed a week due to the NLCS going to a seventh game pre-empting "Heartbreak Hotel-oween" until November 1, 2020.
  • The title is a reference to the 1972 children's book Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
  • A scene from this episode were previewed at a Q&A panel with the cast and creators as part of Variety magazine's Screening Room.[2]
  • The official press release lists Harold and Edith Cranwinkle as appearing in this episode despite not appearing.[3]
  • The book Linda is reading in bed is titled The Painful Murder.

  • When Hugo reaches into the rag drawer, the glove on his hand is missing.
  • Gene's Queen Latifah necklace's middle stripe is colored black instead of yellow.
  • Linda's apron is missing when the kids talk about finding another place to live.
  • When Pam enters the restaurant and Louise turns her head, her left eye remains in place until the shot changes.[4]
