Carly Simon is an American singer-songwriter known for songs such as "You're So Vain", "Nobody Does It Better", the theme to the James Bond movie, "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "Let the River Run", the theme to the movie "Working Girl. She also wrote songs and performed for Winnie the Pooh films,

In Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl, Doug claims that he knows her and if the school produces the "Working Girl" musical he created as his daughter, Courtney's submission for the fall musical, she would attend. This pleases Ms. LaBonz who is an apparent fan who even goes as far as wearing a concert tee and reserving a seat for her.

Throughout the episode Doug explains a variety of reasons for her tardiness including getting the kids drive-through and being car-jacked and eventually she doesn't show up, this leads to Ms. LaBonz slapping Doug. However she did contribute the song "Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl" to the episode which she wrote and performed with the kids over the End Credits Sequence.
