— Dr. Yap
|
Dr. Yap is the Belcher's family dentist. He gets pictured in "Art Crawl," but he makes his actual appearance in "Dr. Yap."
He is voiced by Ken Jeong.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Dr. Yap, a stout Asian man with pale tan skin and black hair, is noticeably shorter than most adults. He is about a head shorter than Bob Belcher and underneath his eye level. Gayle Genarro also points out his shortness in "Dr. Yap." He often appears in his dentist uniform: a light-blue, v-neck t-shirt that is likely a scrub top, gray pants, and brown shoes.
Personality[]
Dr. Yap has a highly positive attitude and tries to befriend many of his patients. On some occasions, he has been prone to negative behavior through jealousy as seen when he had a crush on Gayle and when he finds out about Gayle and Bob's perceived romantic entanglement in "Dr. Yap." At the end of the episode, Dr. Yap lies about not having pain medication and tortures Bob by removing a tooth without anesthesia so he can steal more money from Bob's insurance. In "My Big Fat Greek Bob," when his fellow alumni start looking up to and worshipping Bob instead of him, he creates a convoluted scheme involving a rival fraternity stealing their mascot and setting them up for a prank that would have lead to an expulsion. he also has committed theft at least one, as part of a scheme to take kid's Halloween candy so they would not get cavities he would have to fill all winter, instead wanting to sue that time to ski ("Nightmare on Ocean Avenue Street").
Despite his general insanity, Yap is a competent dentist who will take his job seriously, such as expressing the urgency for Louise to get a cavity filled ("The Kids Run Away"), to helping figure out a plan to get Bob off a toilet he was attached to due to strong adhesive ("Glued, Where's My Bob?"). However, he can still be his usual self in his job, such as a possessiveness of his waiting room magazines to the point where he keeps tabs on them and follows the Belchers home to demand one which was stolen back, even threatening to blackmail the kids when they did not confess ("Steal Magazine-olias").

The Belchers[]
Dr. Yap is generally friendly with the Belchers and Linda and Bob primarily like him since he takes their insurance. Nevertheless, they can get annoyed with him when he becomes overzealous or tries too hard. Dr. Yap has gotten jealous of Bob on numerous occasions, and despite him being a patient, has taken advantage of this. Tina is attracted to him, and while Yap recognizes her crush, he brushes this off and does not acknowledge it. Yap in particular is terrified of Louise since she often becomes violent during their meetings, mostly since Louise is afraid of the dentist. When Louise ran away in "The Kids Run the Restaurant," she told him to wait ten minutes before telling her family, and he waited eight to tell Bob. He was willing to go along with their role play in order to help Louise get a filling.
