(singsongy) You love Teddy. You love him. You're gonna have all his babies!

"Drumforgiven" is the eleventh episode in Season 10, being the one-hundred-and-eighty-third episode overall.

Plot[]

Gene gets kicked out of the Ocean Avenue Hi-Fi Emporium, but Louise takes matters into her own hands to defend Gene's honor. Meanwhile, Teddy takes a handyman job at Jimmy Pesto's restaurant and tries to hide it from Bob.

Synopsis[]

The Belcher kids are walking home from school, with Gene complaining about how the lunch lady shorted him several tater tots, with Louise telling him he should have gotten back at her with the remaining tots, but he didn’t want to burn that bridge. Gene decides to go over to the Ocean Avenue Hi-Fi Emporium, which as Louise notes is the third time that week he’s been there. Tina meanwhile points out that the clerk is starting to suspect that Gene has no money to buy the drum machine he always plays with. Gene loves the drum machine and wants to use it to try out an idea for a beat in the form of a “space cowbell”, and his sisters join him.

At the restaurant, a nervous Teddy comes in late, but says he already ate and that he has a job that might keep him away from having lunch there for a couple of days. His loud and forced speaking, as well as suddenly forgetting where the door is, unnerve Bob and Linda, with Linda noting how weird he’s acting.

At the Hi-Fi Emporium, the Belcher siblings enter to the annoyance of Dino the clerk. Gene says he is totally thinking about buying the beat machine, and proceeds to start making a beat with it. The electronic beat, however, does not impress his sisters, with Tina walking away to try a tambourine, and Dino even putting his fingers in his ears to block it out to Gene’s obliviousness at his annoyance.

At the restaurant, Linda notices a tall plant at Jimmy Pesto’s moving by itself before Teddy falls out from behind it. Teddy comes in, saying he walked in through the alley to Bob’s confusion, before yelling and admitting that his job is at Jimmy Pesto’s, being mad at bob despite Bob’s utter confusion and not saying anything. Teddy yells more about Bob not wanting him to have taken the job and about emailing him other jobs for Teddy to be told not to take and storms out. Linda and Bob find this weird, even for Teddy, with Linda speculating Teddy had an erotic dream about her and not knowing how to act, despite Bob pointing out what Teddy said.

At the Emporium, Gene is still playing with an electronic beat when Dino turns off the drum machine. Dino complains to Gene that he gets his “sticky little fingers” all over the drum machine every time he’s in there, and it’s obvious gene has no intention to buy it, so using it all the time just wears it out. Gene tries to say he is making it better by saving his music beat patterns in it so whoever buys it can get a gold record using them, but is shocked when Dino says he was going to clear the patterns. Tina and Louise try to speak up for Gene’s defense, but Dino kicks them out of the store until Gene has clean hands and money. Gene leaves almost in tears, with Tina following him, and Louise tells Dino to be nicer and that his actions against Gene make her mad. Dino does not care, so Louise makes a veiled threat (and partial knowledge of the film John Wick) to Dino about paying for what he did before leaving.

At school the next day, the kids are eating lunch in the cafeteria, with Gene trying to convince himself he didn’t like the drum machine but breaks down and admits he loves it. Louise is still mad at Dino, saying people like him “need to get what’s coming to them”, and wants to know how to get back at him, but Gene dismisses her. He suggests he may go back to the store to talk to Dino, before leaving with his tray. Louise turns to jimmy Jr, Zeke, Andy and Ollie, who are sitting behind them, to help get back at Dino for hurting Gene, to which they agree, although Tina is hesitant since Gene said he didn’t want anything to happen to Dino, but Louise does not listen.

At the restaurant, Teddy nervously chuckles and tries conversing with Bob about the burger he is eating, while trying to make it sound like both said things the previous day that they regret. Bob is again confused, and notes Teddy only took two bites out of the burger and asks if Teddy wants him to heat it up or if something else is wrong with it. Teddy again starts yelling and accuses Bob of saying he gets free fettucine on the job at Pesto’s and comes in full from eating it, while Linda notes he has a noodle on his neck. Bob says he doesn’t care either way, and then starts yelling when Teddy starts yelling at him, telling Teddy that the “whole thing is stupid”, while Linda asks if this is because Teddy had a sexy dream about her. Teddy denies having recently had one.

Louise leads Tina, Jimmy Jr, Zeke, and Andy and Ollie to the store down the street, with Tina unsure and Louise calling it “justice”. She tells the kids her plan: she will send them in one at a time, then they start playing instruments loudly and do not stop (while frustrating Jimmy Jr. that he cannot play the song “Lady in Red”).

At the restaurant, Teddy tells a blank-faced Bob that “there’s no need to get worked up over this”, while Bob tries again to stress that he doesn’t care and doesn’t want Teddy to feel like he always has to eat at Bob's Burgers, especially if he already ate. Mort comes in and makes a joke about burgers which makes Bob chuckle, causing Teddy to become more upset and start ranting about “inside jokes with Mort”, which Bob has no idea what he is talking about. Teddy rants about how the same week he does a job at Pesto’s that Mort comes in and says something funny (while Linda says Mort has said something funny before, but is not sure when). Teddy yells that Mort is being used, and that Bob is trying to make him jealous, and tries dragging Mort with him before leaving.

Louise sends Zeke in first, to try out a star-shaped guitar, which Dino notes constantly has glitter on it form the glam rocker who previously owned it, and how much he hates glitter. As Zeke messes with the guitar, Jimmy Jr comes in to pound on a keyboard, and Andy and Ollie mess around with a guitar and bongos, causing a cacophony that irritates Dino. Louise comes in and after raising her voice (since asking the others to stop as they are so loud Dino cannot hear her does not work), tells Dino he just got “John Wick’d”. Gene stops by, having hoped to talk Dino into letting him use the drum machine again, but when he enters the store, finds the kids all being stopped by Dino. Dino institutes a new store policy, that no one under 12 can demo the instruments (later 14 when Zeke points out he’s 13). Gene is heartbroken while Louise awkwardly tries to tell him “Surprise”.

That night, at the Belcher kitchen, Gene is mad at Louise for making it impossible to use the drum machine again until he is 14. Louise says she was trying to help, but gene is still mad and looks away from her. Louise says Dino still has not gotten “what’s coming to him” and plans something bigger against him, but Gene tells her to not to do anything, as it just makes things worse. Linda tells them to stop and not fight each other or anyone else, before telling a confused Bob he has to make up with Teddy. Bob reluctantly agrees to apologize to Teddy.

The next day, Linda and Bob can see Teddy working at Pesto’s patio. As Mort comes in for a burger, Teddy rushes across the street to enter. As Bob tries to say he is sorry, Teddy spills a coffee cup full of fettuccine onto Mort’s lap in order to say Mort was sneaking in fettuccine, and wants Bob to kick Mort out as “fair is fair”. Linda notices the cup however, which Teddy throws away, and yells at Mort to take fettuccine for “breaking the fettuccine rules”. Bob tells Teddy to stop, and Teddy storms out.

At Wagstaff, Gene walks down the hall with Tina, talking about how he wants to prove to Dino that he should be allowed to play the drum machine, before Louise walks up to say gene could also destroy Dino, but Gene refuses to talk with her. Louise says Dino needs to get what he deserves, but Gene tells her (through Tina, who immediately forgets all he said) that this is not Louise’s fight, and now he has to finish it and Louise will not do anything else. Louise promises Gene she will not try to get back at Dino in anyway, but as soon as he leaves for math class, she starts talking to Jimmy Jr and Zeke about a new plan to get back at Dino. She asks what they know about him, and Zeke mentions his hatred of glitter, which gives Louise an idea. She has heard online of a “glitter box” prank, where one blows up a balloon, fills it with glitter, puts it in a box with a tack on the side, and give it to someone; when they open it, the balloon pops, and glitter goes everywhere.

At the restaurant, Linda notes how quiet it is without Teddy, while Bob says he tried to apologize. Linda says Teddy just wants Bob to care that he is doing a job at Jimmy Pesto’s, but Bob does not care. Linda thinks teddy needs him to, while Bob is reluctant and wants Teddy to not need himself (Bob) to be mad about working at Pesto’s. Linda asks if Bob can just go over there and act like he is mad at Teddy for taking the job, which bob refuses, until being asked if he’d rather have Teddy keep throwing fettuccine on Mort for the rest of their lives (after saying “maybe”).

In the alley across the street from the Emporium, the kids are all gathered, while Tina notes they didn’t tell Gene about the plan. Jimmy Jr calls the store to distract Dino with a phony request for an amp in the back of the store, while Louise sneaks in to put the box with the glitter balloon on the counter. After she sneaks back to them, Louise is happy to think of Dino being covered in a glitter cloud before seeing Gene walking into the store. Realizing he will get caught in the glitter, she rushes to the store to stop him.

Louise manages to rush in in time, to Gene’s surprise, and Dino’s discontent, given the over-14 store policy and tells them to leave. Gene tells Louise he told her not to do anything, which she says she was not, and fails to convince him to leave. Gene says he has unfinished business, and declares he and Dino will have a drum machine battle as the rest of the kids enter the store. Gene plays, then Dino will play; if gene wins, then he gets to come by after school anytime and play with the drum machine, but if Dino wins, then Gene will leave and never come back. Dino tell hims he will lose, as he has been making beats forever, and is also in Bell Biv Devo, a cover band which plays Bell Biv Devoe and Devo covers. Gene admits he was not aware of this, but still wants to battle. Gene starts out playing a simple beat on the drum machine which the kids start to enjoy while Louise thinks he will be able to win.

At the restaurant, Teddy is packing his truck across the street, and Bob agrees to go over to give him an argument. Bob walks over, and gives a stilted angry bit about being mad Teddy took the job at Jimmy Pesto’s, which Teddy says is why he tried to hide it from him. Bob continues by saying he is jealous teddy was pending time with Jimmy instead of him, while Teddy tries apologizing. Just then, Jimmy and Trev come out, with Jimmy mocking Bob as crying for stealing “your handyman/only customer”. Bob gives another stilted anger moment at Jimmy, which Jimmy laughs at. Just then, Bob gives an actual heartfelt speech, telling jimmy that Teddy only goes there because he’s paid to, while he goes to Bob’s because he likes it, and that Jimmy will never have what Teddy and Bob have, which is a real friendship. Jimmy continues to mock him while Trev admits he wants the friendship they have. Teddy says things are becoming awkward and drives off. Bob walks back, and Linda tells him it was nice of him, and that he last thing he said sounded real, which Bob denies as Linda teases him about loving Teddy.

At the Hi-Fi Emporium, Dino is playing an intricate beat with more rhythm, overall using the machine professionally, which Jimmy Jr likes even more while Louise is dismissive, but the other kids agree that Dino won. Gene admits that Dino won fair and square, and Louise says he put up a fight. Gene says he did, his way himself, and tells Louise that when she fights his battles for him, it makes him feel like she doesn’t think he can take of himself. Louise admits she never thought of it that way, as her standard is pretty much “someone hurts gene, brain goes into destroy mode”, but she is sorry and will try chilling out. Tina meanwhile is proud of both of them, and Gene says goodbye to the drum machine.

As the three Belchers move to leave, however, Dino tells Gene to wait, and tells him that he sounded “pretty good” on the drum machine, and that Gene reminds him of a young, annoying version of himself. Dino offers that Gene can come in on the first Monday of each month and play the drum machine until someone buys it. Gene is ecstatic and thanks Dino. Louise meanwhile grabs the glitter box and leaves. As the kids walk down the street, Tina congratulates Gene on getting something, and Gene sees the box Louise has. Thinking it is an apology present, he opens it, covering the kids in glitter.
