When Tina is up for a big hall monitor promotion, she is determined to do whatever it takes to nab the powerful job. So, she enlists the help of Gene and Louise. Meanwhile, back at the restaurant, Linda gets artsy and begins to decorate the walls with customer artwork... on napkins.
Synopsis[]
Tina is excited before school, as she believes that she will be promoted to the highest level of hall monitor, "Hall manatee" (after Hall minnow and Hall Marlin). At school, she signs in with Rudy, pointing out he shouldn't sign her signature on the sheet to save time as it is against the rules, and that rues are meant to be followed. While patrolling the halls and writing up people (such as Gene and Louise for sliding on stair handrails), they are called to Coach Blevin's office, where Zeke has been apprehended trespassing. As this is his third strike, Zeke must receive automatic suspension and be escorted to the principal's office by Tina. On the way to the office, Zeke explains that he broke into the office for his grandma, and convinces Tina to at least let him use the restroom.
After several minutes, Tina enters the boy's room and finds that Zeke has escaped out a window. Encountering Mr. Frond outside, she lies and says she dropped Zeke off at the principal's office. All of this is spotted by Rudy, who is shocked that Tina would lie. Tina starts searching for Zeke, while Rudy feels his hero (Tina) has gone dirty and it's up to clean up the mess. Tina takes Louise and Gene out of class to help, who are still upset about being written up earlier, and she offers them a permanent hall pass in exchange for their help. At lunchtime, the three interrogate Jimmy Jr, with Tina angrily holding his face over a tray of half-eaten chowder to get him to reveal Zeke sometimes hides in a storage room.
In the storage room, full of stacked desk and chairs, Zeke is found and caught by Tina, who locks him in a Chinese finger trap. Tina gives her siblings the hall passes, but she and Zeke are discovered by Rudy. Rudy tries to take Zeke in and report Tina, but the bell ending lunch rings, and Tina runs off with Zeke out a back entrance to get to the principal's office. Zeke admits he broke into the office to get the school mascot uniform, the Wagstaff Whaler, for his grandma to cheer her up before her surgery later. They are caught outside by Ms. LaBonz, but Zeke's quick thinking allows him to unnerve her by asking for cigarettes as she was was smoking, which she refuses and nervously runs off. Zeke tells Tina that's how to help kids, not by "being a narc" on them. Back in the hallway, Tina says that even if Zeke is telling the truth,, he should have asked first. Zeke reveals that he did ask Coach Blevins, and was turned down due to a history of previously pooping in things. They are spotted by Rudy, who says Tina left him no choice, and yells for Mr. Frond. Frond arrives and realizes Tina lied to him, telling her to release Zeke.
A disgraced Tina heads back to the principal's office, where she overhears a call from the Elegant Doily Retirement Home asking for Zeke. Realizing Zeke was telling the truth, she steals the Wagstaff Whaler outfit and enlists Gene and Louise after apologizing for letting her ambition as a hall monitor get the better of her. They get Zeke out of the principal's office by luring Ms. Schnur outside and getting him to run and blocking Frond from following. Zeke reunites with Tina, who gives him the outfit before he runs off. Tina tries to convince Frond of Zeke's innocence, but he has none of it and points out Zeke has lied before. Tina says she believes Zeke, and Frond makes a bet that if he is wrong, he will give her the promotion, but Tina rejects the promotion, and instead says to not suspend Zeke, with Frond sarcastically agreeing to get ice cream for the grandma as well. If Tina loses, she gets one month's detention and has to turn in her hall monitor vets and finger trap. With Rudy tagging along, they arrive at the retirement home and find his grandmother, but no Zeke. As Frond gloats, Zeke appears in the Whaler costume, with the kids glad and Frond angry at losing.
Back at the restaurant, Linda has been hanging up customer's napkin art on the wall by the cash register. While Mort and Teddy are doing well, Bob's lack of artistic skills doesn't make it and Linda reluctantly hides it behind a coffee pot until Bob throws it away to Teddy's audible relief. Later, after several attempts to draw, Bob draws a burger, which Linda fails to pretend to like, and gets more frustrated when Mike the mailman easily draws a 3D cube. Bob later walks over to the art store Reflections, where he asks for a quick drawing lesson, which Harold and Edith give after some flattery and price-gouging on supplies. The subject is life drawing, and unfortunately for Bob, the model is a nude Edith. Despite his disgust at many aspects of the situation (like unexpected hair), Bob agrees to draw. That evening, Bob returns with the drawing of naked Edith, which Linda and the kids find so good that it's hung up on the wall.
