- The title is a reference to the punchline I hardly know her! which follows words that end -er in jokes, roller being a prime example.
- Storyboard services for this episode were outsourced to Australian animation studio DAVE Enterprises with Kev Wotton directing. All credits relating to this are listed on the end credits making this the first episode to not have a director's credit in the opening titles. The company would later return to storyboard "Every Which Way but Goose" and "Long Time Listener, First Time Bob."
- First episode where Brooke Dillman reprises one of her roles from a previous episode (Mrs. Papasian).
- Doug's shirt changes color from purple to orange starting in this episode.
- The song Gene sings while he misses Alex is "Alone" by Heart. Eugene Mirman sang each line individually before they were spliced together to make the completed recording.[1]
