• This is the first episode to be written by a cast member (Dan Mintz), and the only episode where the cast member was the sole writer, H. Jon Benjamin co-wrote "The Land Ship" and "Secret Admiral-irer" with Holly Schlesinger.
• This episode's script was copyrighted as having 4ASA04 as its production code, but the release of "The Frond Files" showed that the latter was given that production code. The correct production code for this episode is 4ASA05.
• Tina's Equestranauts comics are published by Bento Box. a reference to Bento Box Entertainment, the show's animation producers. On one cover Mintz, Bouchard and Dillihay are listed as writers and Wong, Theis and Lim are listed on another. These are all cast and crew members on the show.
• An Equesticle can be seen holding two coconut halves. A reference to the 1975 film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
• Many crew members on the show are caricatured as equesticles. Rachel Hastings is caricatured as the party waitress who offers Bob cheese.
• A book at the saddles stall Tina visits to find a saddle for Chariot is called "Appraising Saddles," a play on the 1974 movie Blazing Saddles.
• The restaurant at the convention center is branded as the "Equestraraunt."
• The singer in the after-party scene sings a slowed down version of the Equestranauts theme song, this occurs before the actual version is heard during the end credits, sung by the cast.
• The safe combination that Bronconius claims is an Equestranauts reference only he'd know is 5193. This is seen when he types it in, to show Bob his rare collectibles.
• The Scottie Pippen Special Edition Headhorn doll Bronconius shows Bob wears a jersey bearing the number 33, the number that Pippen wore during his playing years.
• The Peggy-stroika doll Bronconius shows Bob has marks on its helmet that resembles the port-wine stain on the head of the Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
• Bronconius mentions the gold-plated Mini he owns used to be owned by Jon Hamm. Hamm guest-starred on the show voicing the titular toilet of the episode, "O.T. The Outside Toilet."
• Pony Danza, one of the Equesticles, is a reference to actor Tony Danza.
• This episode is an entire allusion of the 2010 animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. References include:
  • Equesticles are an allusion to "bronies" -- male fans of the show.
  • Equestra Con is an allusion to the various conventions that host panels for the show.
  • Xandar thrusting Horse Valley into a thousand years of darkness is a direct reference to the plot of the first episode of Friendship is Magic.
  • There are many references to "the magic of friendship", which is a key factor in the show.
• The unfinished tattoo that Bob gets in this episode appears in all future episodes whenever the area above his right buttock has been shown naked.
• The script cover shows Bob in a pony costume with Tina posing cross-armed and looking smug.
• Bob's pony character, "Bobcephala", is a play on "Bucephalus", which was the name of the horse of Alexander the Great.
