Um, hey, Matt, your grandpa called. It's you.
Boo Boo to Matt in Tina Belcher's story

"The Handyman Can" is the nineteenth episode in Season 10, being the one-hundred-and-ninety-first episode overall.

Plot[]

When Teddy finds himself doubting his abilities as a handyman, the kids build up his confidence by telling stories.

Synopsis[]

In the restaurant, Tina and Louise are giving Gene fake breasts out of rags when Linda tells them to wipe the menus or they will not go to the trampoline park, I Gotta Take a Jump, the next weekend. The kids are excited, and Linda wants to go too as they have had a good business month. Bob enters with an ice pack on his head, having repeatedly bumped it due to the light malfunctioning in the walk-in in the basement. He wonders where Teddy is to fix it, as it is not the lightbulb but something with the circuit wires.

After Jimmy insults him and walks off, Teddy comes in depressed. He tells Bob to hire someone else to fix the walk-in, as he was installing a ceiling fan and outlet in Reggie’s gazebo, but found out that here was a short, and the gazebo burned down. He’s not sure how it happened but is certain it was his fault, and starts sobbing over it. He ‘s not sure if he can trust himself to do such work and thinks he is a danger. Linda tells him he made a mistake, but nobody is perfect and she and Bob will still hire him to fix the light in the walk-in. Bob is hesitant and asks to speak to Linda in the kitchen.

Bob thinks they should hire someone else, as Teddy burned down a gazebo, but Linda believes in Teddy, while Bob believes in how inexpensive Teddy does his job. He wants to call another person, but she notes that will cost them “two and a half Teddys”, and Bob says they might not be able to afford the trampoline park, before going “not it’ to telling the kids. The kids are shocked in the kitchen at the news. Linda tries to cheer them up by jumping but manages to ache all over. Louise tries to talk them out of hiring a “real electrician” by noting they would point out all the problems with the building, and bob is too poor and proud to fix any of it, which he concedes. Bob is not sure that have any other choice, and points out Teddy doesn’t want to do the job. However, he says maybe he will let Teddy do it if Teddy says he will, and Louise asks about helping Teddy feel better about himself, so bob will feel better about his electrical ability, and they will all be dead the next week form bouncing so much at the trampoline park. Bob still wants to get someone else but the kids decide to cheer Teddy up.

Although feeling too sad to eat, Teddy orders two burgers as Louise tries to cheer him up over a “little mistake” but he points out he burned down a gazebo. Louise tells him he’s the secret weapon to the “broken down pile of crap” that is the building, and Tina says that not only do they need him to the walk-in, but he’ll be needed to fix all sorts of stuff. Louise tries to figure out something ,and say he’ll be needed when they get the “Hundred Year Storm”. Teddy has no idea what the Hundred Year Storm is, and Louise’s begins.

Louise’s Story[]

Bob's burgers water world barge

The restaurant/barge in Louise's future story.

The world in the future is covered in water, with society broken down and no land in sight. Thankfully, Teddy has converted the building into a floating restaurant barge as he tells Bob how easy it was to fix the light in the walk-in. (As story Teddy makes a joke about his truck being parked out front before bluntly saying everything is gone, real-life Bob asks how this is a pep talk as Louise tells everyone to shush and continues.) Rumor is that during the storm, all the candy from Wonder Wharf stuck together into a huge candy island, but no one has ever found it until one day, Rudy rows by to orders two burgers. Louise notices a weird pattern tattooed on Rudy’s back, and thinks it is a map to Candy Island. Just then, “puberty pirates”, Logan and his friends, ride up on converted water-bikes, and they want to snatch Rudy so Logan can crown himself king of Candy Island.

Bob gives Teddy his burgers as he asks about how the world is covered in water and the restaurant being a barge, and Louise says that having Teddy as a handyman will help them as well as get them to the trampoline park, and continues her story to Teddy.

The Puberty Pirates have them cornered, and have Rudy encircled. Logan and friends use shrimp cannons to shoot at the family as Rudy is nabbed. Teddy reveals that, although they are on a barge, he’s been working on a system for the barge to turn into a hovercraft at high speeds for chases, as Louise notes the great engineering and electrical wiring. The barge catches up to the teenagers, but they have no way to get over to them and save Rudy, until teddy reveals he took the plumbing out (since the world is now essentially a giant toilet) and put in enemy ship-boarding poles.

Bob notes that the poles are like in the film Mad Max: Fury Road, which he asks that Louise has not seen, and she implies she knew how to stream the movie over and over Linda’s password.

The kids are launched on the poles and manage to knock off Logan’s friends off their bikes-floats, and Louise manages to catch and push off Logan before grabbing Rudy (and going back to get his inhaler), who curses their super-competent handyman. The Belchers, Teddy and Rudy sailed for Candy Island, where they lived for the rest of their lives.

Louise tells Teddy this is why they need him as Bob has some questions. Linda is impressed with story-Teddy and Louise tries to get him to fix the walk-in light, but he is still not sure, not wanting anyone to get hurt if he works on an electrical panel. Before Bob can call for an electrician, Tina stops him and begins saying Teddy is a good handyman who can do more than turn their restaurant into a barge, and if there were an international incident, where the most important cultural figures of their time needed help?

Tina’s Story[]

Olsen Brenner delivers the news on TV that Boyz 4 Now are stranded at the top of Mount Everest, where they were shooting a music video for their new single “I’ll Love You 4 Everest”, and rescue efforts are stalled due to the terrain. The Belchers watch this in the living room, with Tina shocked and Louise trying to find her affection for Boo Boo. Teddy comes up from the restaurant saying he fixed the light in the walk-in in two seconds. Bob thanks Teddy and compliments his physique, and Bob asks the family to make room on the couch for Teddy but Teddy instead sits on Bob’s lap, and the two play around using Bob’s arms as a “seatbelt”.

Bob is disturbed by this.

Tina tells Teddy that Boyz 4 Now are stuck on Mt. Everest, and Teddy says he has been working on a project in the restaurant. Bob tells Teddy he’s the best handyman in the world and hugs Teddy. As JImmy Jr and Zeke talk about how interesting Tina is across the street, they see an old-timer hot air balloon pop out of the Bob’s Burgers roof, lifting the restaurant and being steered by Teddy, to the Himalayas.

Linda is impressed by how future-Teddy will put a hot air balloon on top of the restaurant, as Tina says he can fix the walk-in, but Teddy is concerned and keeps seeing Reggie’s gazebo on fire, wondering if he should quit being a handyman. But his suggestion of stocking shelves at the supermarket is ruined when it’s pointed out that if he stocks a can of soup wrong, someone will get hurt. Tina continues her story.

Balloon-restaurant on Mount Everest

Flying restaurant to the rescue.

As the restaurant balloon flies to Mt. Everest, the band members are stuck and arguing with each other. They arrive, with Boo Boo believing that it’s a fajita restaurant, but the winds are too high for the balloon to land. The band members note their biggest and most interesting fan, “Tina Something.”

Linda asks how they don’t know Tina’s full name in her own story, and Tina says that they meet a lot of people.

For a moment, it seems like there is no hope, but Teddy lowers a rescue booth down for the four to sit and get on. Suddenly, there is an avalanche.

Tina notes the avalanche twist, but Bob tries pointing out that if they are at the top of a mountain, an avalanche wouldn’t happen that high, but with Tina interrupting and insisting “avalanches happen on mountains’, he gives up.

With Louise saying to save Boo Boo and the other don’t matter, Teddy manages to cable up the rescue booth with all four band members right as an avalanche hits the top of the mountain. Boo Boo suggests shooting their music video in the restaurant, with Tina directing, and that’s how she won the Academy Award for music videos, thanking Teddy at the acceptance speech.

Tina finishes her story and congratulations Teddy and herself, with Teddy amazed that he did not know he could do that stuff, but he’s still not sure about fixing the light in the walk-in. Bob is ready to call an electrician, but Gene stops him and tells Teddy how he will do something greater for the restaurant.

Gene’s Story[]

At Jimmy Pesto’s, Jimmy has given Andy and Ollie a pet lizard. Jimmy goes outside to dump old pizza sauce into the storm drain, while Bob complains about how it stinks up the block, while Jimmy says it’s not old, it just smells old. That night, as JImmy locks up, the lizard walks away, even though Andy and Ollie stare right right at it and meekly say goodbye. The lizard goes into the storm drain, and gets exposed to the nasty, old-smelling, “possibly radioactive” pizza sauce, and grows into the monstrous “Pizzilla.”

The giant Pizzilla stomps through the streets, and not only has its size increased, but its farts are deadlier due to the pizza sauce. Pizzilla attacks the army, even as Andy and Ollie plead with them not to. As the Belchers watch a tank fight the lizard from the restaurant, Teddy comes in and says he fixed the walk-in light, but Bob tells him not to as they have bigger problems. The Belchers are worried about how the lizard is heading towards them and they cannot fight it, when Teddy reveals that while he was doing odds and ends at teh restaurant, he was working on a secret project.

Robo-Burger Bot on the street

A lizard-fighting Robo-burger-bot.

And just like that, the restaurant building transforms into a lizard-fighting Robo-burger-bot, with arms, legs and a head on the roof. Each member pilots a different part of the robot, with Tina and Linda in the arms, Louise and Bob in the feet, Gene in the head, and Teddy in the butt. After a short but concise tutorial on the robot’s controls, the Robo-burger-bot goes off to fight Pizzilla. The battle last for hours, crushing buildings and sending onlookers fleeing. But the giant lizard’s flatulence proves too much, getting through into the robot’s cockpits and past the Belcher family’s helmets.

Teddy gets the idea to wire several circuits together, and the robot lifts up its right index finger, for Pizzilla to take the bait. It does, and the robot lets out a “fart” out of its rear exhaust vent, to the lizard’s enjoyment. With the “power of farts and laughing about farts”, the lizard keeps pulling the robot’s finger over and over. Pizzilla and Robo-burger-bot become friends, spending their time splashing in the ocean and pulling each other’s finger’s to fart in the ocean.

Gene finishes his story, and Teddy is finally convinced to fix the light in the walk-in, with all the stories among him feel better about his abilities, knowing the family believes in him and to believe in himself. Teddy says they don’t need a licensed contractor, which Bob admits they would if they could afford it but is stopped by Linda. Teddy is so confident, he calls Reggie to tell him he will build a bigger and better gazebo, but is rejected over the phone fats by an angry Reggie. Teddy goes to get his tools in the truck to fix the walk-in, as Bob says they all lose, as the restaurant will probably burn down now but they all got to go to the trampoline park, to the kid’s cheers.
