- This episode's table read took place on October 31, 2014 (Halloween 2014).
- Fox's press release for this episode misspells the title as just "Hauntening".[1] FoxNow, iTunes and the Annie Awards website all list the title as it appears on the script cover.
- This episode aired at 9.00 PM as opposed to the usual 7.30 PM timeslot Season 6 episodes aired. Most likely so that NFL games would not interfere with the scheduling meaning that the Halloween special would air in time for Halloween.[2]
- Final episode worked on by animation timer Gordon Kent who passed away in March 2015, his final credit comes later for "The Cook, the Steve, the Gayle & Her Lover" which entered production before this episode.[3]
- A total of 2.09 million households watched this episode.
- Instead of Jimmy Pesto's, a skeleton's reflection appears in the window of the Pest Control Truck in the opening titles.
- Second appearance of Boyz4Now, discounting their non-canonical appearance as Boys Fore the Present Thyme in "The Gayle Tales."
- Boyz4Now's "I Love You So Much (It's Scary)" is a parody of Backstreet Boys' "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" song and music video.
- The music video might also be a homage to Michael Jackson's "Thriller" music video. Both videos feature the song's singer(s) as monsters and performing a dance. Gene comments that the music video is like a reverse "Thriller".
- Linda mispronouncing "Bobbenstein" as "Bobbensteen" may be a loose reference to Young Frankenstein where the lead character Dr. Frederick Frankenstein insists that his name is pronounced "Fronkensteen."
- This is the first time in his adult form that both of Bob's ears have been visible. They have only been partly visible when younger versions of him have been shown and Linda picks him up by one of them in "Burgerboss."
- Tony! Toni! Tow-me!, a car towing business Bob picks out from the 90s phonebook is a reference to 90s group Tony! Toni! Toné!
- This is the first time a character's uvula has been seen (Louise's).
- On December 1, 2015, it had been announced that for this episode Steven Davis and Kelvin Yu had been nominated for the Annie Award for Outstanding Achievement, Writing in an Animated TV/Broadcast Production. They later won the award.[4]
