The title is a reference to "The Horse Whisperer." This is again referenced in the episode when Tammy tells Tina, "You're such a horse ass-kiss-perer."

It received a nomination for the category on July 14, 2016, making it the show's fifth consecutive nomination in that category, only The Simpsons before has any animated show held a longer streak which lasted from 1995-2013. It later lost out to Archer.[1]

The motto of Horsing Around Riding Center is "Where a horse is a horse, of course, of course", lifted from the lyrics to the theme song of the American sitcom, Mister Ed. This episode originally aired four days before the death of the show's human star Alan Young who played Wilbur, Mister Ed's owner.[2]
Teddy yelling, "The power of fries compels you!" to the fryer is a reference to the movie, The Exorcist, where the line is "The power of Christ compels you!"
The pinecone that Gene turns into Mr. Pinecone is probably the same pinecone that Mudflap gifts the family at the end of "Wag the Hog." Other items seen in the pile that Gene and Louise give to Bob and Linda include; a sock, stay-tabs from beverage containers, a remote, Lego bricks, A Lucha wrestling action figure, a bar of soap, a bath plug, a stapler, and a half-eaten taco.
None of the burgers Teddy eats in this episode have cheese on them. They also have the lettuce below the patty instead of below the tomatoes.
Linda mentions seeing a lot of camp movies, an example of one is Wet Hot American Summer which stars Paul Rudd who voices Jericho in this episode and various guest stars from other Bob's Burgers episodes, including David Wain, the director and co-writer of the film. Additionally, H. Jon Benjamin has a voice cameo in the movie and stars in the prequel Netflix series.
Tammy wears pink cowboy boots in this episode instead of her normal shoes.
The banner that appears above Linda, Gene and Louise while singing "Restaurant Camp" says "Restaurant Camp's skit-song show to save the camp."
The final shot of the episode was only completed a week prior to its premiere date, this likely explains why the episode aired later than some other episodes which had a higher production code.[3] Earlier drafts of the ending included a wide shot of Tina riding by herself[4] and Tina riding Jericho off into the sunset.[5]
In collaboration with Toddland, "Restaurant Camp" t-shirts with a totem pole of the Belcher Family's heads and a burger was produced exclusively for sale at the San Diego Comic Convention 2016.[6]
Gene and Louise saying “Yep” and “Mm-hmm” together is a reference when Hank, Dale, Bill and Boomhauer drink beer together in King of the Hill.

In the first overhead shot of the final scene at Horsing Around Riding Center, there is a woman standing on the far right past everyone else, she doesn't appear in any other shots including the final overhead shot.
When Doris is assigning horses to the girls, a sixth girl who doesn't appear anywhere else in the episode is present.
Doris does not wear a riding helmet at all when riding Duchess.
Tina has a glass of water to her right in the shots that point straight at her while at the dinner table after her first day at camp, at other angles Bob's wine glass is there instead. Additionally, when Tina leaves the table, both wine glasses disappear.
