• The script cover shows Bob looking at his hand with the drop of blood rushing down his hand. There are several parts of that script cover but they decided to do the first.
• Louise makes a reference to the Tennessee Williams play The Glass Menagerie when she says, "he left for cigarettes and never came back!"
• Louise makes another reference with the line, "...and this time, it's personal!" alluding to the tagline of the 1987 film Jaws: The Revenge.
• The game Surgery Sam is a reference to the real game Operation.
• The game Torpedo is a reference to the real game Battleship.
• The cut in Bob's "finger crotch" is a reference to the Buffy The Vampire Slayer episode "Chosen," in which Buffy defeats the evil Caleb by cutting him in half from the crotch up with a scythe.
• The Cutie Patooties are a reference to the Broadway musical Dreamgirls.
• Gene says, "There's Arbor Day, who needs that?" This episode aired the Sunday before Arbor Day in 2013.
• Zeke says, "You can keep the money, friend. Or you can keep your nurple, but you can’t keep both." This is a reference to Robert De Niro's line in the 1995 film Casino.

Goofs

• At the beginning of the episode the customer's burger and plate disappears when Gene and Linda start fighting over "gumhead". His burger and plate reappears after Bob cuts his hand.
• The windows in the car appear clear in the first shot when Bob and Linda are driving home from the hospital. From the close up of Linda onwards they are now slightly opaque.
• Tina's apron disappears when the family comes out from behind the curtain. It doesn't appear again until the scene changes to Bob and Mr. Fischoeder starting their challenge.
