"The Skids in the Hall" is the fourth episode in Season 16, being the three-hundred-and-second episode overall.
Plot[]
Louise and Gene try to help Tina clear her name after she is fired as a Hall Monitor.
Full story[]
Tina has a counseling session with Mr. Frond in his office. She recalls how he fired her as a hall monitor when Cole Ridley twisted his ankle as she tried fixing the water fountain at her old post that Stewart now patrols, and that other hall monitors wrote complaints about her. Unconcerned, Mr. Frond expresses relief when the bell rings and ends the session. She heads for lunch with her siblings, when they spot Mr. Branca unclogging paper towels from the water fountain Tina tried to fix.
At the restaurant, Bob shares with Linda and Teddy his excitement about booking an appointment to renew his license. He shows Teddy his current one, where he makes an uncomfortable smile that they all dislike. Gretchen arrives for her to-go order as Linda asks about business at her salon. Gretchen points out that it's slow and realizes she can style Bob's mustache and take a picture of it to bring in more male customers. She convinces Bob to let her style it tomorrow at the restaurant.
At lunch, Louise points out how Cole's leg seems fine, as he keeps hopping from the floor to his seat. Louise suspects someone wanted Tina fired by luring her with the water fountain, and that Cole helped.
The Belcher kids return to the restaurant from school and share their suspicion. Tina points out they haven't told Mr. Frond yet because they need evidence. Bob complains as Gretchen sends him pictures of mustaches.
The next day, the Belcher kids interrogate Cole at school, and they discover a bruise on his arm. The kid excuses it by saying he got it from his accident, but Tina points out that it wasn't in the incident report. Gene and Louise must drag Tina away as speaking to Cole makes her upset.
Gretchen finishes styling Bob's mustache at the restaurant, giving him a thin mustache with a gap at the center. She takes pictures of it and insists she can also tint it, but Bob makes an excuse that he has to work. She unwittingly leaves Bob and Linda uncomfortable with the mustache.
The Belcher kids are in the halls when Mr. Branca passes by and complains about how he keeps leaving the same shoes at the lost and found.
The Belcher kids decide to spy on Stewart, which Tina complains about as he eats Pink Sugar Puffs while patrolling and wiping the candy residue on his vest. When Stewart leaves his post unattended, they spot Cole and other seventh graders sliding in the halls without their shoes on, slamming into the wall as they continue. Louise realizes the seventh-grade boys are bribing them with candy to allow them to sock race.
While the Belchers have dinner, Tina complains about the seventh graders, and they all complain about Bob's mustache. Bob wants to shave it, but Linda points out he can't because of his driver's license.
At the front desk, Head Monitor Maggie discharges the other hall monitors as Tina visits. She is about to reveal to her that Stewart got her fired until she spots the same Pink Sugar Puff dust that Stewart had on Maggie's vest. She finds her siblings and reveals that Maggie is also receiving bribes for candy. Rudy stops by the Belcher kids while patrolling, but Tina starts shaking him and questions if he's also part of the scheme. She finds no candy residue on him and realizes that Rudy wouldn't be an accomplice, as he never patrolled where the seventh graders do their sock racing. The Belcher kids reveal to Rudy the conspiracy within the hall monitors. They decide they should film Maggie at the scene of the sock racing. The Belcher kids make Rudy part of their plan by having him lure Maggie as another hall monitor.
Teddy complains about Bob's mustache as Bob serves Teddy a burger. Gretchen returns and reveals the success of the pictures of Bob's mustache. She realizes that Bob doesn't like his mustache, so she decides to style it more. She leaves Bob's mustache as two stubs, and when she goes after taking pictures, Bob, Linda, and Teddy agree that Bob should shave it.
The Belcher kids are in an empty classroom in a hall where the seventh-grade boys sock race, with a camera from the media room to film Maggie when she comes. Meanwhile, Rudy is with Maggie, convincing her that Stewart allowed him to join the conspiracy and that she must go to where he is immediately to tell the seventh graders to give him more candy. In the classroom, Tina realizes Mr. Branca polished all the floors and points out that if the kids sock race now, they'll receive worse injuries than bruises when they slam into the wall. They leave the camera recording as they go to the gym to get a tumbling mat to soften the impact. As the Belcher kids head there, they decide to leave their shoes behind to cause less squeaking while pointing out how fun it is to slide on the floors.
Rudy and Maggie are in front of the class with the hidden camera. Rudy stalls Maggie, as she wonders where Stewart is. The Belcher kids return with the tumbling mat and hold it in front of the wall for Cole and the other seventh-grade boys. Maggie demands to know what's happening as the seventh-grade boys collide with the mat and resume their sock racing. Tina tells Maggie that she knows about the conspiracy and shames her for enabling them. Maggie argues that they would sock race regardless of whether they stop them. Louise reveals that she and her siblings recorded her. Tina shames Maggie again, though Maggie isn't remorseful for the candy she got.
As the Belcher kids leave school, Mr. Frond tells Tina that she is a hall monitor again after all the hall monitors wrote letters to him to reinstate her, and that she is now the head hall monitor after Maggie's suggestion. When Mr. Frond goes, Louise states they should have told on the conspiring hall monitors, though Tina assures her she'll guide them. Gene and Louise run to the school exit as Tina tries to warn them.
When a shaved Bob takes his driver's license photo, he wears a stick-on mustache, which he regrets as it slowly falls off. He has a new license that has him cringing to keep the mustache on.
