  • The title is a reference to the 1979 The Buggles hit, "Video Killed the Radio Star."
  • In Doug's studio, there's a poster for the 45th Cereal Jingle Awards and Roller Dance 1984. The first poster references his occupation as a jingle writer and the latter referencing his roller dance career in "Roller? I Hardly Know Her!."
  • Doug's "Open Pit Barbecue Sauce" vocal warm-up is possibly a reference to the show 30 Rock, in which a character (Jenna Maroney) uses the same line to test a room's acoustics.
  • Courtney's friends from "The Unbearable Like-Likeness of Gene," Rupa and Julie, both appear in the music video; This is the first time following that episode where their friendship with Courtney is seen.
  • The version of "Locker Love" playing over the end credits was sung by the show's music coordinator Emily Goldstein and composer Brent Knopf who did arrangements in the two-part "The Bleakening" episodes.[1]
